How do I know if my pet has arthritis?

The earliest warning signs to watch out for are changes in how your pet moves and behaves. They may start walking stiffly or at a slower pace. They may also be hesitant to go up and down the stairs. You may notice them wincing when getting up or laying down. Being more irritable may also be a sign that they are in pain.

How is arthritis treated in pets?

Unfortunately, arthritis cannot be cured. But it can be managed successfully. Depending on the severity and the type of your pet’s condition, your veterinarian may prescribe one or a combination of the following:

• Anti-inflammatory drugs
• Medications that can repair cartilage
• Pain medications
• Rehabilitation
• Lifestyle changes (e.g. exercises, gear, padded flooring)
